Banned book-Harry Potter

Opponents of the Harry Potter series believe that anything that mentions a witch or a magic spell is equated with evil, West said. They don't see it as fantasy, "They see it as real. A small group of Americans can't accept fantasy that way. They really do care about the book's impact, so they go against others' legal rights."

"Times have changed," Berit Kjos, Christian author, said, noting that children today are more vulnerable to fantasy stories such as Harry Potter because they may view the imaginary world as much more fun compared with the real world. "Christianity clashes with a love for witchcraft," Kjos said. The biblical God doesn't fit into Potter's world of wizards, witches, and other gods. The Harry Potter series teaches an Earth-centered spirituality, the same religion as what the witch religions teach in the San Francisco area, she said. "It is a religion that is very real and is spreading throughout the country. It makes me very uncomfortable when [children] are immersed in topics that make witchcraft very exciting. It can be very confusing for them."

There were 26 challenges in 16 states to try to ban the books in their states, I think the book should not be banned considering it would be a big lose for readers, because harry potter is one the greatest books ever, and has sold millions of copies all around the world. Readers would lose a lot if they banned the books, readers would lose their imagination. Imagination is the basis for goals and dreams, without those our society would be at lose. Our society would not advance because there is no goals for people to build and no one would want to accomplish anything.
How would you feel if your favorite book was banned?

  1. Brandon,

I love Harry Potter and for it to get banned is dumb! Yes, it has some bad scenes, but overall, it is a good book! Banning it will not stop people from reading it and you cannot avoid those things all your life. Chances are, you will watch bad movies, and people should have the freedom to read whatever they want and books that were written should have their freedom. I would be so mad if my favorite book was banned, and I can see why you are too.
